Heard World Radio

2022. Recorded for The Lot Radio in Brooklyn, NY. If you want to sum up my tastes in one show, this one comes damn near close to ticking all of the essential style boxes. There’s a little something here for just about everyone: orchestral chamber music, classic and cosmic jazz; tropical pop from Africa, Japan, and Brazil; stoned summer soul; vintage Havana heat; doo-wop; broken R&B beats; and even some ambient music. Fun fact: I (unknowingly) recorded this show with two broken toes!

Trouble In The Paradise Café

2021. Recorded for KPISS FM in Brooklyn, NY. I was asked to guest host the weekly program by NYC record shop Paradise Of Replica, which focuses entirely on music from Japan. Had a lot of fun recording this one, made at the peak of the COVID-19 lockdowns here in NYC. This one features a more traditional style of presentation that includes my contextual DJ commentary, spoken directly to listeners as I guide you through an hour of lesser-known jazz, tropical funk, Tokyo Braziliana, and ambient music.

Steve Hiett: Strange Beautiful Chords In Strange Beautiful Light

2020. Recorded for NTS Radio in London, UK. All music on this program recorded by noted photographer, graphic designer, and guitarist Steve Hiett, whose two albums feature extensive liner notes by yours truly. One of my favorite radio projects I’ve ever recorded. Additional info on the project can be obtained here.

Slate Palms + Neon Saltwater

2017. Recorded for Friendly Potential Radio in Auckland, New Zealand. This was my first concerted attempt at recording something that utilized traditional beat-matching and mixing techniques normally associated with dance- and hip-hop-oriented DJing. A fun experiment, and a mix that IMHO still holds up quite well as a vibrant summertime listen, while remaining true to my signature eclectic diversity aesthetic.

The Bride Stripped Balearic:
A Day At Dada Beach

Recorded in 2017 for a mixtape release that sadly never came to fruition, but which ended up getting me the Friendly Potential show, so I guess it all works out in the end. In many ways, this mix proved to be a rough draft of sorts for the Friendly Potential show: Eighty-eight minutes of weirdo Ibiza beach vibes, heavy on synthy dub mixes, beach-blanket disco funk, global yacht rock, and aquatic ambient bliss. This is the sound of my summer: slippery and sweet, a little messy, with a little bit of sand stuck in the damnedest places. I still listen to this one for personal enjoyment, and might put it on a tape myself one day just for kicks.

Baume D'été

Recorded in 2016 for my own personal enjoyment, and a big favorite among friends and listeners who’ve discovered it. This mix features 95 minutes of Bossa Nova, Samba, Cadence, and other Tropical Delights from France, Japan, Antilles, and the European Continent... with a few stray Brazilians trapped in Europe as well. This is comfort music to me in many ways. A few classics (if you’re into this sort of thing!) and tons of deep cuts. Curiously, this mix seems to have inspired an excellent collection released in 2020 by Born Bad Records, which compiled a significant number of songs featured here alongside a few others from similar releases. Imitation, flattery, etc. Buy it!
