In addition to my extensive career as a Writer and Creative Director, I also build custom hardwood furnishings. In 2016, I took a sabbatical from writing and media work for a few years to focus and improve my skills as a fabricator and carpenter, accepting an apprenticeship at the now-defunct Boles Studio in Brooklyn. With Boles, I learned the nuances of interior and fabrication design, and helped to build custom installations with a focus on sustainable hardwoods for a diverse commercial and residential clientele. Many of our signature pieces were designed for media storage and use, so in a way, it wasn’t a complete diversion in my background… I was simply charting a new course on the map of my career.

After the dissolution of Boles Studio, I’ve worked as a Production Assistant and Preparator in the museum and fine arts/gallery world, where I expanded my carpentry repertoire and gained skills handling rare artworks for storage and transport between museums, galleries, and institutions. My clients during this period included MoMA, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Morgan Library & Museum.

In a desire to gain more knowledge and skill with lighting design, I accepted a Production Assistant position for Stickbulb and Rux Studios, a Queens-based organization who create fully-modular LED light systems out of reclaimed wood sourced from old water towers, fallen trees, demolished buildings, and sustainably managed forests. While the experience was highly enlightening (PUNS!), the world of design and creative direction beckoned me back full-time in a media-centric context once again.
